(In retrospect, that was an overly generous hint.)

I think Sean’s quest excites me for two main reasons:

1. Pizza is delicious.

2. Sean’s level of commitment. It’s one thing to say, “Hey, this year I’m going to eat pizza every day during the month of October.” It’s another thing to actually follow through. And it’s yet another thing to do it for SEVEN YEARS RUNNING. This year he’s even making a pilgrimage to Chicago (from his typical hunting grounds, the New York metropolitan area). [Edit -- Upon rechecking his blog, I was reminded that he'll also be traveling to New Orleans, New Haven and Philadelphia this year. Folks, the man is on a mission.]

Here is his blog.

And this is a video recounting day one, 2008 — De Lorenzo’s Pizza, in Trenton, New Jersey.

Sean: May the Gods smile upon you and your awesome quest.

Dear Mystery Valentine,

Happy Valentine’s Day! I just wanted to let you know that I totally agree with your decision to wait until AFTER Valentine’s Day to reveal your secret love for me. I agree with you that Valentine’s Day is a totally artificial creation of the greeting card companies, and that we shouldn’t play their little game (just because everyone else does). No, you and I are in complete agreement on that. It’s much more appropriate to wait until the days immediately following 2/14, if you’re talking about revealing a true, deep, sincere love for someone. Let everybody else take momentary joy in their roses, their heart-shaped mylar balloons, their boxes of expensive candy, their romantic dinners, their long walks in the moonlight, their surprise plane tickets to Paris. You and I know better!

That being said, now that we’re clearly in agreement about the whole Valentine’s Day thing, it would be really post-modern and clever of us if we were to go ahead and do it the traditional way, with you revealing your secret love for me today, while it’s still Valentine’s Day. Either way. Just wanted to let you know that we’re TOTALLY on the same page.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
