I recommend *always* saying "Bonjour" before starting any kind of conversation, including asking for help in a shop. In my experience, if you walk into a shop and catch the salesperson's eye and say "excuse me, could you help me find (insert random french item here)", but omit an initial "bonjour" even if you said it all in french and used the uber-polite subjunctive tense, it was considered rude. We actually had a policeman mutter about our rudeness in our faces when we tried to ask for directions (this was before he realized we actually spoke french quiet well and understood him).

Other things:

Saint-Chapelle is a gorgeous little oft-overlooked chapel with some beautiful stained glass. That's my advice. :)

Buy crepe on the street with butter and sugar. Like, every day. Chase with croissant.

Check to see when museums open at the door, sometimes they'll open earlier than posted and you can avoid the tourist insanity.

Have fun!

I would hope all those t-shirts had been destroyed, by now... Republicans are capable of shame, right?

Watch out for:
1) Modern art
2) The French

Definitely:
1) Have fun
2) Write about it when you get back

A Dare:
Get a picture of you posing with a Paris native while (you) wearing a "Bush/Cheney '04" t-shirt.
